Wi-Fi and Microwave Ovens emit high levels of non-ionizing radiation in the same electromagnetic spectrum? Their frequencies are so similar (2.2 GHz and 2.4 GHz) that running your microwave in your home often disrupts your Wi-Fi signal. Non-ionizing radiation does not directly damage DNA like ionizing radiation; it does it indirectly. How does non-ionizing radiation damage DNA, sperm and other human cells?

Human, animal and plant cells have an extremely strong calcium gradient on either side of the cellular membrane. This means it does not take much of a change in concentration to drive the ions inside the cell.

Non-native microwaves are pulsed in the frequencies of upwards to 100 billion times per second (1 GHz) and electrify the Voltage Gated Calcium Channels (VGCC) of our cells.

This large influx of calcium ions into the cytoplasm of the cell has consequences. Levels of Nitric Oxide and Superoxide spike and react to create Peroxynitrite. It only takes a tenth fold increase in Nitric Oxide to start this reaction and this reaction creates a one hundred fold increase in Peroxynitrite.

Peroxynitrite is capable of damaging cell membranes, proteins, stem cells, and DNA. This free radical is harmful because it is the only known molecule that has a long enough half-life to travel the distance between cells while also being small enough to reach the nucleus and genetic material of the cell.

The increase of peroxynitrite within our cells cause accelerated cellular ageing, cell death and DNA damage. DNA damage is a pre cursor to diseases like cancer.
